Good morning, Washington DC!

For the next 6 days I'll be hanging around the DC area. As it's my first time visiting, I'm very much looking forward to all of the historical monuments and museums.

The 3 hour time difference really had me up at a late start today, but I'm feeling energized and ready to be a tourist! (Anyone know of any good eateries...and stationery shops?)

  3. Welcome to DC!

As a mail-lover, definitely check out the Smithsonian National Postal Museum, which is next door to Union Station. I run Mail Social Club there on the second Thursday of the month, which I am sorry you missed, but the rest of the museum is pretty great, and often overlooked by people rushing to the Mall.

One of the best stationery shops in the city is the gift shop at the National Gallery of Art. Another good space is Copenhaver for more formal stationery (cotton paper, Crane, Vera Wang cards, etc.), but their hours seem scattered; I've only caught them open a few times, and never late in the day. It's on Connecticut Avenue south of Dupont Circle, next to a Starbucks on the corner of N Street.

Eastern Market has a large and crafts and farmer's market every Saturday and Sunday, with a flea market joining them across the street on Sundays.

If you like good coffee, Filter and Peregrine Espresso both have a couple stores in the city and both are fantastic.

I will plug my own shop, too: Analog is next to the Brookland Metro and has stationery designed or made by me and vintage clothing that my co-owner revamps and repairs, along with some vintage stationery, jewelry, and other items. We're open Wednesday through Sunday, and I am working Saturday and Sunday this week (though the best time is Saturday between 10 & 1 because there's a farmer's market and sometimes baby goats). Come introduce yourself! http://shopanalog.com/

    1. HI Melissa!! Wow, thank you so much for your comment and recommendations! This is so wonderful and helpful! The National Gallery of Art is right up the street from where we're staying, so I'll definitely be walking my way over there! Tomorrow's weather isn't looking so good, so maybe Friday or even Saturday.

And, yes, I love a good cup of coffee! Filter and Peregrine Espresso have now been added to the list! ;)

And I'd love to come by your shop!! I saw on your website that it just opened up this year. How exciting, and congratulations! Paper lovers unite!

    1. I did, Jane. Thank you! It did start to get chilly, though, so I came home right in time to beat the rain. ;)

  6. I don't know why my comment didn't show up. I will just type again. :) If you happen to be in Georgetown, Dumbarton Oaks Garden is a lovely one. http://www.doaks.org/gardens And if you want some museum, don't miss Freer and Sackler. http://www.asia.si.edu/
