Breaking in the new art journal {project}

Say hello to my new everyday art journal.

Well, I'm not sure if I should call it just an art journal as I wouldn't want to label & limit it as this one thing, but that's pretty much what it is, an everyday-carry-around scribble journal.

This little notebook isn't committed to keeping track of all of the tiny details within the day, or recording those deep questionable thoughts. Instead, this little hobonichi journal is just my little place where I commit 5-10 minutes at the end of the night to unwind, recap, and do some self-reflection.

You know those ah-ha moments that come out of nowhere? Or those ideas and thoughts that make sense but you never knew why you didn't think of it before or act upon it? Well, I call those revealing moments your true inner voice. It's the you that really is but sometimes gets suppressed by the ego. And sometimes the ego is really good at convincing us that we're not creative, or that we "don't know how to draw or paint," or that journaling is "too troublesome" to commit to, and not for us.

It's natural that we all go through those times where we doubt ourselves, or doubt our abilities and talent. I know I have..lots of times. But you know what? Who's the judge? Who are we really creating for? Why the pressure? Why the comparison? Who cares if things don't come out as expected. Who cares if the drawing isn't perfectly sketched. Who cares if our ideas sound crazy. Who says that there is only "this" way or "that" way of creating? Just do you. Just do what works for you.

Just because you have a journal/notebook/diary, it doesn't mean it has to be used in any particular way, or that it has to be used everyday in order to be effective.  There are no rules when it comes to journaling. That's what makes every journal unique and beautiful- Your own style.

So with that all being said, that's exactly what this journal is intended for. Just for pure, fun randomness. I'm committing to this new personal project of mine where I'll dedicate just 5-10 minutes each day creating and writing down the first thing that comes to mind. It can be anything from how I'm feeling, what I saw, what I learned, things I've heard, dreams and ideas, etc.

There's no set theme or style with this one. The goal is to just capture and create the feelings given at that very moment of the day, to just do me.

    1. Thank you, Gert! I have to say, after seeing your journalings on a daily basis, it reminded me of how much I really do enjoy creating in the hobonichi journal. Love the paper and bound of this notebook! It's just wonderful.

    2. I do quite agree that Gert's journaling is so impressive. I am so jealous of the handwriting, that is. :) And yay! I am back online but not on IG yet. Btw, did you get the mail I sent to you before I went on break? Hope it isn't lost.

    Thank you, this article is just what I needed! I think the real reason I haven't started journaling yet is because I'm worried it won't look or feel how I expected...but that's the problem - I shouldn't expect anything apart from honesty!

    (Apologies for being anonymous - my name'a Michelle and I did have a blog but it's been so long I can't remember the url! )
